Vancouver Wayzgoose 2025

On Saturday, October 25, the Alcuin Society cohosted its biennial Wayzgoose with the Vancouver Public Library Central Branch on Georgia in Vancouver, BC. The Alice MacKay Room was filled with various exhibitors showing their work and some doing various book arts demonstrations, such as book binding using a sewing frame, etching, calligraphy and Turkish paper marbling. There were many book artists present, as well as letterpress printers, handmade paper artists, lithographers, and linocut artists; the names of whom can be found on the event’s announcement page.

The Wayzgoose was highlighted by the presentation of Alcuin Society Book Design Awards to four local designers who were able to attend the ceremony:

  • Jason Dewinetz (The Turn | Like a Moth at a Window)

  • Courtenay Webber (The Undesirables)

  • Marc Bell (Raw Sewage Science Fiction)

  • Jennifer Griffiths (How it Works Out, Dayspring, Five Manifestos for the Beautiful World)

Richard Hopkins, longtime Board member of the Alcuin Society and currently its secretary, made a few remarks about the history of the Alcuin Society. Before the presentation, Crispin Elsted of Barbarian Press in Mission gave a brief talk on the history and importance of beautiful books. The awards were then presented by Board member Natalia Davidovic.

If you’ve missed it this year, rest assured: the Wayzgoose will be back at the same spot in 2027.
